My Mom was a huge help around the house and with the girls' check up appointments. Claire is 40lbs and 43" tall. Kellyn is 31lbs and 36" tall. Kellyn also had her cardiology appointment for her heart murmur. Its still there but no need for another check up for 3 years thankfully! Her appointment was awful and stressful for her so I'm glad she will be 6 at her next appointment and hopefully have lower anxiety.
My Mom and I got to see The Age of Adeline and it was a great movie! I love all of her hair styles and wish I could figure out how to fix my hair that way. We also had a day to check out the antique mall and eat at the Marietta Diner. We baked cookies, celebrated May Day and just enjoyed our time together. Chris and I had a date night to see Furious Seven and we ate at Pasta Bella. We also got to be tourists for a day and we explored the College Football Hall of Fame and a VIP tour of CNN. It was a great time! We miss Mimi terribly and look forward to more family visiting!
I joined Usborne Books as a consultant in April. I never thought I'd go for one of those companies and buy into it but I did. I love kids books and I love getting a discount. I get to share them with friends if they are interested and make some extra money on the side.
This Wednesday is the final day for NLA preschool. Miss Joy will have some summer programs that we can join in. She has mentioned a bee class and some other fun things! We've had so much fun attending most Wednesdays and the occasional Friday! We will still attend when it officially starts up this fall. We've made so many new friends and I'm grateful for that!
We've been meeting up for lots of play dates at new creeks and parks. Most friends we've met homeschool as well and some don't. So far the ages range from newborn to 9 years old. I love the range of ages the girls have for friends. Claire would typically be registering for Kindergarten so it feels more official we are homeschooling this year although life will still be the same. I'm very excited for what this year will bring us as a family. For Kindergarten our plan is to "unschool". There are many different ways to unschool and homeschool in general. My idea of unschooling, for us, is child lead learning. Lots of playing, singing, dancing, crafts, experiments, exploring outside, play dates. It's amazing to ask the girls what they want to learn about and how awesome their answers are.
Claire started riding lessons at the new barn. Its 10 minutes away from our house which is so nice! She has had two lessons and has ridden a sweet horse named Fergie. Kellyn likes to watch but says she wants to ride a horse too! Maybe we will have two jumpers in the future! The barn is beautiful. They have over 100 acres and so many beautiful horses.
One thing I'm looking forward to for June is attending a volunteer orientation at a cat clinic not too far from us. Kellyn LOVES kitties so what better way to know more about them by volunteering to help feed them, pet, and play. If all works out and the girls are able to help then I'm hoping to volunteer twice a month to start. Chris says we better not end up with a cat every time we volunteer. We will see how long I last before I cave in. I think Jake would love having a feline buddy to snuggle with!
We are enjoying our first Georgia spring. The humidity has been kicking in a bit more. It's not extremely terrible yet so I can only imagine what it will be like when summer is in full force. We've been enjoying lots of family time when Chris is off on the weekends. We are hoping to make a trip to Florida to spend time on the beach and play in the warm ocean. The last time I was in the warm ocean was in Thailand. Our neighborhood pool is opening up soon so I'm looking forward to swimming with the girls a bunch and I'm still incredibly grateful for central air conditioning!!
